What does the antenatal course cover?

The antenatal course is our popular group course where we cover all
types of birth experience to prepare you for any eventuality and we discuss all your options and choices (where to give birth, birth environment, hormones + so
so much more!) to prepare your birth preferences - important for both you and your birth partner to know! We have practical and interactive biomechanics in birth as part of the course where we look at how to balance your pelvis and optimise baby's position for birth as well as make pregnancy and labour more
comfortable! PLUS, you get my support by WhatsApp/calls/emails plus the support of your antenatal group who are all due at similar times to you!

Why is or antenatal course different?

The Mammas Inc Antenatal Birth Preparation (ABP) course has been
developed and taught by a practising midwife. This means you benefit from my experience at births but also my knowledge of how to navigate the maternity system you'll be giving birth in. I incorporate my passion of Midwifery with teaching too and I have experience as a Clinical Lecturer for a local university. I am studying MSci Advanced Midwifery to really get to the small details and knowledge which I pass onto my clients! You also get my support by WhatsApp/calls/emails
through the rest of your pregnancy and into the postnatal period with any
questions that crop up or if your situation changes and you need some support or advice! Plus, our antenatal course is very much based around your options and choices - with the aim of making sure that you're in the driving seat when it comes to giving birth! When you join a course with us you also get the
benefit of your antenatal group of friends!

Is the course for my partner as well?

Yep absolutely, partners are encouraged to attend the whole antenatal course! Our courses aim to prepare birth partners for their role at every stage of the journey so that they feel able to advocate for you, support you and feel confident!

What if I don't have a partner?

Please feel free to bring your birth partner (whether that's a friend, relative or your mum or whoever!) however you are more than welcome to come by yourself as well. All our courses are very relaxed and friendly, and we offer single parents a discount – get in touch to discuss this further.

Do I have to pay upfront?

For the group sessions at The Health Suite payment is requested upfront
to secure your booking.

For 1-2-1 most people pay a £50 deposit (non-refundable) to secure their space on a course and then pay the rest by instalments. These instalments are up to you - you choose how much the instalments are and when. I'm very relaxed, it just needs to be paid by the start of the course.

If you are budgeting or need to speak to me about payment plans etc
please let me know as soon as possible. I am open to helping you in anyway to access good quality information for birth and postnatal preparation and can work to a budget and tailor sessions for you.

Is it still worth doing acourse if I'm having a caesarean birth?

Yes absolutely, discussing caesarean birth and what it involves – is
covered by our Caesarean Birth Preferences course (2.5 hour session) and we cover everything to do with options during a c-section/what to expect, how to communicate all this plus recovery from a caesarean birth! It’s helpful to know what to expect and what you can change and stay in control of as this will enable you to have a seamless transition to life with a new-born.

How many sessions is the course?

The group sessions (Antenatal Birth Preparation) are held on a Saturday 11-1pm, there are 4 sessions x 2 hours long.

1-2-1 antenatal birth preparation course is 2.5 hours x 4

Hypnobirthing is 4 x 2.5 hours long.

C-section Birth Preferences – 2.5 hours

VBAC Antenatal Preparation – 2 hours

Postnatal Session (single) 1 x 2.5 hours

What if I can't make one of the sessions?

I'm happy to organise a mini 1-1 catch up session with you guys if you can’t make it to a session for any reason. Alternatively, sometimes the rest of the group are happy to move to another date - so just drop me a message and we can sort something out! If either you or your partner has to miss a session, we can still arrange a mini catch up but I also send out packed emails of information after every session which helps and I'm available to answer any questions by WhatsApp/Email/Calls as always.

How many people are on each antenatal course?

Our group sessions currently have 4 couples for each group and during
Covid we are socially distancing and wearing masks to ensure this is safe for
you all.

Which antenatal course dates should I choose?

It's totally up to you - some people like to do it slightly earlier in their pregnancy and some slightly closer to their due date! If you're unsure however you can drop me an email and I can help!

Do you arrange a post birth meet-up?

Due to covid this has been a little tricky however we are hoping to do a big get together soon. We see a lot of our antenatal group parents at our Tiny and Mammas meet ups every month.

What does hypnobirthing involve?

Hypnobirthing is for every type of birth. It is an opportunity to discuss any fears or worries you might have and cover any/all birth preparation you need. We discuss the physiology behind birth and why it's so important to feel relaxed and calm during labour and then we cover lots of techniques to make sure you're able to do that!

Can I do hypnobirthing with you as well as an antenatal course?

Our Hypnobirthing course includes the foundation of the Antenatal Birth Preparation Course, so if you want both the best thing to do is opt to do the complete Hypnobirthing course. If you have already completed the ABP course, get in touch for a top-up course chat!

What are your postnatal courses like?

Our postnatal course looks at the expectation of life with a new-born. We discuss the postnatal period; your body and how you recover from different types of birth experience but also how to care for yourselves during the early days with a new-born. We also cover your options for feeding your baby as well as caring
for them in the first few weeks!
